Since I am working here in a diamond mine, I should know at least the basics about diamonds; like how they were formed and how they were transformed in million years. Not all mining companies here in Angola are digging diamonds, some are mining Kimberlite and I used to wonder the difference between KIMBERLITE and DIAMOND.
Kimberlite is a volatile-rich, potassic, ultrabasic igneous rocks that occurs as small volcanic pipes, dikes and sills. Kimberlite pipes are the most important source of mined diamonds today. Therefore, Kimberlite serves as a carrier of diamonds.
